Children Growing Zucchini in our Front Yard – Earth Science

August 25, 2013 By Lil' Bebe Academy Leave a Comment

The joys of summer.  Gardening, swimming, enjoying the backyard and traveling.  Summer is for many adventures and fun.   I would love to see the most of the world its the natural wonder, architecture and of course meet indigenous people. I am an immigrant so traveling comes naturally to me.  Travelling takes money and though I would love to wish myself and family to many destinations, the reality is this summer with limited finances we decided not to travel. (see some of our family adventures).  So we made the most of our summer staying local, enjoying our backyard and gardening.

My children are naturally drawn to dirt, they love to play, dig and roll in it.  Like me, they love the garden.  They made a little zucchini patch in the front yard.  Planting the seeds directly in the dirt (sometimes we do plant in containers and then transplant but, this time we did it directly).

See the zucchini planted alongside some marigolds.

Can you spot that fit one on the vine?

My son happy with the pick.

My daughter with her plastic sword.

Soon to be made into zucchini bread which, we bake ever so often.

Do you like gardening with your children?  What are some of the crops you grow in your area?
