Kids Painting with Tall Grass Flower Head Makes Beautiful Wall Displays

The children have been loving their painted artwork done with grass flowers.  Grass flowers are like a natural paintbrush with soft bristles that caresses the paper. The children in my care have been visiting the forest preserves and nearby wooded areas in such of natural resources they use as learning tools.  They got these grass flowers within walking distance in our neighborhood. Grass flowers are abundantly plenty during the late summer through fall months. Here is a  Video of how they made their beautiful artwork with grass flowers.

You will need some acrylic paint …we love to use acrylic paint in our arts and craft, grass flowers, paper and gather the kids outdoors for some fun 🙂  We applied the paint at the top, middle and near the end of the flowers.  Then have the child slap the paint filled flowers on the paper, keep moving in the direction you want to be painted.

They made different colorful art.  If your child doesn’t want to slap the painted flowers on the paper that’s ok.  They can make gentle strokes with the grass flowers as in the yellow artwork. These are the tall grass the kids used….they grow wild all over Illinois.

After making their grass artwork they made this beautiful blot art.

Another fun activity that your child will surely enjoy.  Thanks very much for stopping by – Miss Sue

Here’s an example of our cleanup process. The bell goes off for lunchtime and the children automatically start singing and cleaning up (I don’t usually sing but they do). Some are singing only for the song while others are busy cleaning up like ‘the little red hen.’ A beautiful example of when you work alone and the children are your teammates.
Yes, they’re my little learners and teammates - all hands on deck. We have a wonderful symbiotic relationship harmoniously working together for the good of the environment.
It makes this work enjoyable and it also helps all to learn and appreciate each other - especially when you have a yard this size.

Beautiful slow approach to my early years classroom. I work alone and it’s very important that we all enjoy the space. Children are allowed to move materials, gather, play, learn and then clean up after.
- A small mixed-age ratio provides many opportunities for discoveries, play and lots of hours outdoors.
-This was a rainy day, we also harvest rain for their unending play.

Nature gives children something real to think about. Listen to the children - bumblebees and butterflies like nectar too.
