Want a fun, creative winter activity to do with toddlers, preschoolers, and school-age children? Then journey with us to make some snowmen and women people from socks. Get some plain white socks, filling (poly-fil), google eyes, sparkles, rubber band, felt and let’s do it.
Step 1 – get socks and filling.
Step 2 – fill the socksStep 3 – after filling, bind the top and other sections that define the snowman with rubber bands…(elastic band)
Step 4 – adorn the socks with sparkles, eyes, felts and all the cuchuments (Jamaican word for accouterments). To attach these use crazy glue (handle carefully) or other glue that will attach these to the socks. We didn’t try fabric glue..that may work. The crazy glue was handled by an adult…warning it sticks to anything.
Step 6 – the snowboys had the top area cut into pieces to create that effect.
While the snowgirls had their hair pinned back and glued. My feminist daughter insisted on having these snowgirls…Her stance was, why only snowmen when girls rock? Of course, my darling make your snowgirls, so, she and her friend made these amazing snowgirls/snow-women.
These beautiful snow people were made over several days. My assistant helped the younger children with this craft, she also applied the embellishments..cuchuments, that needed to be glued. All done!
Snow is falling gently on our head
Snow is for snowmen and snowwomen
Snow is for playful little kids…..Miss Sue
