Too much snow and kids want to play. It’s freezing here in Illinois, but the children needed to head outdoors. Cabin fever is real. When children do not play outdoors they are unhappy, more fidgety, wretched, anxious and whiney. So despite the zero degree weather, we dress for the weather. Here they wanted to drive the playground car to Africa but the snow was too much for them to get going. One child called for the shovel and soon others joined in to help.
After much digging, sweeping and shoveling the car got cleaned (per their interpretation of clean). The car battery died a couple years ago, but instead of tossing the car, I added it to our daycare outdoor space. It’s been loved, played on and with for years.
One child decided to hitch a ride but soon realized there wasn’t a driver. So, he bailed.
Very soon the driver jumped in and drove off to Africa when, she realized she was missing the passenger. She made a detour stop in Alaska to find the missing friend (don’t ask how they have their geography coordinated). They are just kids and I allow them to play and be as imaginative as they want to be.
Don’t you just love when children tell their stories. Storytelling is amazing. Where is your imagination?
Have fun listening to your children’s stories – xoxo Miss Sue
