Leaves are falling around us, yellow, brown, red and orange. What can the children do with these leaves? Allow children to go on a little scavenger hunt to collect nature bits – gathering the leaves, straws , twigs or whatever they find of interest. What’s in your yard that can be used with your flower press? Let your imagine soar and encourage creativity with your children.
Shake the bugs off what they collected :). If leaves are dry press them the same day or they may dry out and curl – pressed leaves are better when pliable (not wet). Wet leaves will mold and that is not the activity we are hoping for.
Bring nature collection to daycare and allow children to add to press cardboard or sandwich between a large heavy book.
Allow each child to choose their nature bits.
Add little or more – it’s their choice.
Add each layer of nature cardboard and when done screw or wrap (depending on the flower press you have) and put away for a couple days or a week.
A week later open and see beautiful flat leaves…
Want to know what they created? Well that will be another post. (hint …process art was done)
Have fun finding nature bits to add to your flower press kit.
xoxo – Miss Sue
