A beautiful Spring science that your children will enjoy but, not spend lots of time doing. Cut a piece of your magnolia tree branch, the ones with buds. Take indoors, place in a vase containing water and over time watch it blossom. This activity was done during the month of March, the children recorded their observation while the buds beautified our space. Their prediction was that there would be many flowers. Cut a branch with many buds and place in a vase…
First, the bud will have a little crack like a burst..as seen here. As the days go by they will see blossoms appear.
After some days depending on the warmth in your house /classroom, the blossoms will shot through the buds. Another note is that we had placed the buds where they could get enough sunlight.
This picture shows how much blossoms we got from the branch. The tree in the background did not flower when this photo was taken. This was truly an excellent science activity your toddler, preschooler, and school-aged children. They learned how warmth and seasons impact a trees growth, foliage, and fruitage.
Another fun project that you can do with your children. Ask your neighbor before taking branches from their trees 🙂 Miss Sue
