5 Skills Every Childcare / Daycare Provider Need to Have

February 3, 2021 By Lil' Bebe Academy Leave a Comment

Are you a childcare/daycare provider, childminder, or homeschooling parent? What are some of the skills you have honed and know that each caregiver should have?

My 5 Top Skills are:

Patience – some days are like riots, and others smooth sailing. I have learned to bite my tongue (figure of speech) and chill. Some things are not worth stressing over, yet others are very much worth falling on my knees and pray.

Kindness – every child is a gift from God. I have learned that being kind is the best thing for a little child’s sorrow.

Playfulness – nothing beats a playful caregiver. Children are naturally playful. A teacher who isn’t playful is NO fun.

Flexibility – schedules will be broken. Having the flexibility to sway with the changes of the day will prevent heartache, headache and much pain.

Strength – there will be much lifting, bending, and moving around. Along with physical strength, there is a demand on the mental health. Every caregiver should have mental tenacity and fortitude, lots of grit.

My son added ‘youth‘, which I beg to differ because I am an old soul who is very creative, playful and I have a lot of strength.

My daughter added ‘strict‘; I agree to some degree.  Childcare workers should have a little bit of strictness but not too much. I believe every caregiver should have a voice of command, which is different from their familiar voice. That voice is not a shouting voice but a voice that lets children know,  who is in charge, children need boundaries.

What are your top 5?

xoxo – Miss Sue
